컴을 붙들고 잉여질을 하던 중에, Doomsday Engine 이라는 걸 알게 되었다.
고전 DOOM 시리즈(둠 1, 2, Ultimate, Final)의 3D 그래픽 효과와 사운드를 향상시킨 건데, 원작의 분위기를 그대로 유지하면서도 그래픽의 퀄리티가 상당히 높아진 듯 하다. 둠3 정도까지는 아니지만..



Instructions

1. Extract the Doom, Heretic, and Hexen WADs to a temp directory.
2. Run "jDoom v1.8.6.exe". Install in default directory of C:\Doomsday.
3. When it asks for the WAD files, point it to each of the WAD files in the temp directory you made. Remember that DOOM.WAD is actually Ultimate Doom. Don't bother linking Shareware Doom or Doom 1. Just link Ultimate Doom to DOOM.WAD.
4. Say yes to placing a desktop icon for Doomsday KickStart, if you like.
5. Extract the contents of "GLBSP.7z" to C:\Doomsday.
6. Begin installing the enhancement packs for the games you have installed. Do them in the numbered order which the files appear. If the file is a 7z, extract it's contents to C:\Doomsday. If the file is an exe, tell it to install in C:\Doomsday. Simple right? If you are asked to overwrite the files or folders, say yes.
7. Run Doomsday Kickstart from the Desktop or Start Menu. It may not pop up above your current open windows, so look on your taskbar for it.
8. Choose the game you would like to play from the pull down box. Check the "Add-Ons" tab, and if anything is listed, be sure to check it.
9. Now go to the main "Graphics" tab, and pick OpenGL, or Direct3D. Pick your Color Depth. Pick your screen Resolution. Don't check any of the boxes to the right unless you know what you are doing.
10. Click the "Play" button. It may ask you for the game's WAD file. Allow it to search for it. When it finds it, click yes. When asked about processing the WAD, click yes. All of this will only need to be done the first time you run each of the games. After that, you will not need to do this again.
11. Exit out of the game. Follow steps 8 through 10 for each of your other games. If you don't do this, some enhancement packs may not be enabled on other games. You are almost done.
12. Each of the games has control panels built inside, as well as traditional ID-Style configuration menus. Set the games to your liking. Use common sense when changing settings. Map the controls to resemble modern day FPS games if you wish. You will want to enable Jumping and Mouse Look. You will also want to raise the sound quality to 44100htz, enable 16 bit sound, and possibly enable 3D sound. Make sure "Preferred Music Source" is set to "External Files", so that the enhanced soundtracks will play. Repeat this for all your games that need it.
13. That should be everything. Have fun!
